I had the opportunity to spend some days in Kyoto. I am always amazed by this city. It is really great, there are so many temples to visit. To me the most breathtaking one is the Golden Pavillon aka Kinkaku-ji temple. It is just wonderful.

Apart from the temples and the gardens (including the rock garden which is a must see !) which from a cultural perspective are fascinating, what I liked most in Kyoto is simply how nice the people are. They are always willing to help you. The city is really quiet despite it being a rather big city and you feel calm in Kyoto.

One of the best part of my stay there, was that I could experience the Japanese traditional way of living. We found a Ryokan like place to stay offering some traditional apartments with tatami and so on. This was really a great place to stay in and that I would recommend to anyone who would like to visit Kyoto. It was really great.

And of course, to get there, the Shinkansen is really an experience ! Those trains look so futuristic. You feel like you are in a Manga ;-)

My journey in computing started with an Apple II playing Lode Runner, then moved to a Macintosh LC at age 10 in the early 90s. While most people navigated command-line interfaces, I was exploring graphical user interfaces on the Mac. Ironically, I later experienced the inverse evolution—discovering Linux at 17, properly learning Unix at 20, and becoming hooked on the command line. While others embraced Windows GUI, I spent most of my time in terminals. I discovered the Internet in 1994 when it wasn't yet widespread. I studied Computer Science with a focus on Distributed Systems, and now work as a software engineering manager.
